Just realized that we are used to a school system in which your learning progress is dictated by what the Ministry of Education decided for you. What if a kid learns faster. What if a kid needs more time ? Intelligence is not necessarily in how fast you “appear” to grasp new concepts. And it is anyway almost useless to be “intelligent” in our society. You just need to be able to replicate what your are fed. Hence the importance of learnt-by-heart “knowledge” at school.
I have always been at odds with people telling me to keep at what school tries to teach me. I’m a curious guy and forced teachings kill my curiosity. I have noticed that Teachers and Parents do the same with their kids. Keep at your homework and don’t do things on your own. That’s bullshit.
Anyway, the school class system is a good way to teach a “group” of people but not an individual. At core, our educational system is flawed. People who could grasp things faster are slowed and people who would need more time are dropped behind. We need to improve this.
One solution I often see is to be home schooled. Probably not the best solution for everyone either.
“So as I have said in past blogs, I have been working with Bobby V for over a year. We have recorded over 35 of the 70 songs for his album together. I worked with him on xmas day, thanksgiving, easter, among all the other days under the “verbal” promise from Bobby that I would receive “atleast 2 song placements” on his album.
I have let Bobby use an xmas song that I produced with and engineered for him to play on the radio. I helped him engineer things for free on some of his timbaland songs and even went up to the studio for him to play some instruments on a few of his other producers songs. Collectively, I have spent over 30 full days working with Bobby in 05-06-07. I did all of this under the verbal promise that he had given me that I would receive 2 placements on his album.
Today Bobby’s management called me regarding the songs I did for Bobby’s album. However, instead of the 2 placements previously promised they said they would put one on the album and one on the international album as a bonus song. They as well as a dtp administrator before even asking me about compensation for the songs threatened me by saying that if I didn’t let them have the protools and mix the songs before they were paid than they weren’t going to use them on the album. I kid you not people this actually just happened today… They referred to me as a “nobody”, told me that I will take whatever they can give me, and they told me that I was replaceable if I wasn’t willing to let them mix my song before I got the contract or any compensation. Now, I can’t lie.. it was hard to stay cool after I heard all this but I did.. I simply gave them my price and didn’t take anything they said to heart. After I gave them my standard new producer price they of course said that they couldn’t pay anything anywhere near that. Now they made me a pretty low offer and even though I was upset I stayed focused/friendly, let them know that I really wanted to be on the album, and proceeded to counter by lowering my price to meet them in the middle.
Anyway, They blew me off again so I gave it a little time, called them back and said hey we all want these songs to be on the album I am willing to settle for the initial offer. Well, after I said that they all the sudden made the initial offer lower. My management and I discussed the issue and decided that the price we countered was the lowest within reason and that a line had to be drawn somewhere because they could just keep going down. Anyway, I stuck to the price and didn’t say anything. Bobby’s management proceeded to attempt to talk down to me “like bill who are you trying to fool you need this money you don’t have anything else. ” They told me that I wasn’t making any moves and that if I didn’t take what they wanted to give me than I was just being stupid. I didn’t argue with anybody and simply stuck to the original price.. They then proceeded to pass the phone around and all tell me that if I didn’t do the deal the way they wanted then they weren’t going to be able to work with me in the future. They attempted to blackmail me and threatened me on several occasions. I am just giving you the real nitty gritty people..
So after me just listening to all of that and sticking to my price the whole time the phone was finally passed to Bobby. I kept quiet the whole time and let Bobby talk. I was shocked to hear what he had to say. He said that I was stupid, and that I have to take the money because no one else is going to work with me but him. He went on to say that my managers sucked, he also said that he made me hot and I wouldn’t be anything without him, he said that every other singer I worked with sucks, and he said that I don’t even deserve all of the money because he worked on the songs with me. Wow! yes I am not making this up. lol he actually said this to me.. So what did I say…—” listen, I would love to be a part of your album if you can pay me the original price you sent me today but I can’t go lower than that.”
